1. Here you see my canvas after I have textured it using paper, gauze, pumice paste and modeling paste.
2. Paint is mixed for the first layer of color to be applied to the canvas.
3. The color is applied to the canvas with a brush but I utilize a mister to get full coverage into the textured areas.
4. The canvas is completely covered with exception of an area at the top for the sake of composition.
5. Red is applied to the top portion of the canvas as I attempt to create an interesting compositional color balance.
6. Now I add black to the edges for composition balance. Up till now I have not been concerned with the final colors of the piece.
7. Now I begin to develop the final colors for the painting. I also begin to add compositional accents by glazing rectangular shapes of color using various templates.
Emotional Embers
8. The painting is completed by intensifying the colors, putting in final touches and covering it with a a gloss finish. My wife and I came up with the the title, Emotional Embers, while discusing our interpretations of the completed painting.
